Jim Theodore

Jim Theodore’s passion for boating began at the age of 9, when he built his first boat while growing up in Far North Queensland. After completing his boatbuilding and shipwright apprenticeships, Jim gained extensive experience working on timber vessels, undertaking major refits and new builds in Innisfail and Cairns, Queensland.

Relocating to Adelaide on a working holiday, Jim forged key relationships with the South Australian Government, contributing to the fit-out of their fleet of Pilot Vessels—many of which remain in service today.

Jim’s influence continued with Precision Cruisers, where he played a pivotal role in commissioning their vessels in South Australia. Simultaneously, he undertook custom timber yacht fit-outs for some of Adelaide’s most respected maritime clients.

In the early 1990s, with the rise of imported boats, Jim adapted his business model to focus on repairs and maintenance. He founded North Haven Boat Builders, which later evolved into Port River Marine Services, becoming Adelaide’s largest provider of repair and maintenance services, supported by a growing team of professionals. Jim eventually passed the business onto his son, James, as part of the second generation, where it continued to expand.

In the early 2000s, Jim designed and built the Theodore 720 Series—a high-end trailer boat developed to fill a niche in the market. The series has gone on to win numerous industry awards and remains one of the most respected trailer boats available today.
